Across the Snow With a Sail

约 160 词 · 4题

An attack had stopped Fogg's train. He was now twenty hours late. New York was his next destination, and a ship would soon leave there for England.

The train could not make up the lost time. Then Fix, who was travelling with Fogg, found a strange last hope: a light sled pushed by the wind. A guide who knew the way agreed to lead the group through the cold night.

Fogg agreed to the plan and took the risk. The sled crossed the snow through the night and reached Omaha around noon. There the travelers took another train and continued east. They arrived in the city of Chicago around four o'clock the next afternoon and later continued toward New York.

The plan had made up most of the lost time, but not enough. When Fogg reached New York, the ship had left 45 minutes earlier. He now had to find another ship from New York if he wanted to reach England.

1Why does Fogg agree to use the sail-sledge?
2What moved the sled across the snow?
3What did the travelers do after the sled reached Omaha?
4What setback ends the passage?
